U7 v Gerrards Cross & Fulmer 04/10/2009
05/10/2009 at 2:20 pm | Posted in Match Reports, Under 7s | Leave a commentOn a lovely autumn morning we travelled to Fulmer for our first away fixture of the season. We had played GX & Fulmer at the Holmer Green pre-season tournament; an excellent match played in a very good spirit and were looking forward to renewing aquaintances. We were not disappointed and I’m not swayed by the presence of a pavilion serving bacon rolls and tea/coffee to blow away any Sunday morning cobwebs.
GX & Fulmer are a strong club boasting a large number of players in the Under 7 age group and we had 4 close matches. We generally had the better of the games which were played in a very good spirit by both teams.
Pitch 1
These were two very good team performances with everyone playing a full part in both games. Robert and Alex Willox showed natural goalkeeping skills during their time in goal while Alfie and Joe made several fine, and at times unorthodox, saves during their spells in goal.
Special mentions go to Jacob and Alfie who grew in confidence through the 2 matches, Matthew, who excelled in the first game playing as a striker, making plenty of incisive runs with great determination, obviously inspired by his trip to Stamford Bridge on Saturday, and Alex Willox, playing his first matches of the season, tackling well, showing excellent handling during his spell in goal and demonstrating great awareness of passing options. There were telling contributions from all the players, from Joe’s well-timed tackles through to Luke and Aaron’s mainly clinical finishing.
These were two fine performances; the first game was probably our best as in the second some of our defending was a bit ragged. We passed the ball, made our tackles and created many chances. Our goalscorers were Luke (3) and Aaron.

Pitch 2 Our overall impression of our 2 games was what a fantastic team performance in two cracking games.
All the players played their part in both games; good defensive play from Charlie and, as usual, Alex Jennings. Kian, Arjan and Charles also played well, with Charles scoring one of the goals. Sam was fantastic, so much energy. His running with the ball was outstanding. Rishi was a tackling machine and one clearance went the length of the field. He also did well in goal with a clean sheet. Alex Walker was also excellent (I’ve not seen him so involved before). He made 2 unbelievable saves in goal and one turn that foxed the whole of their team.
We scored 4 goals; Sam got 3 and Charles 1. I think I probably saw one of the best goals ever from Sam, in the first game, who seemed to dribble the length of the pitch and then lob the goalie.
Both matches were really even but our teamwork got us through in both matches.
