With our away league fixture cancelled as Seer Green have withdrawn from the league for the time being, we welcomed Gerrards Cross & Fulmer, who we had played away in the league 2 weeks ago, to Westwood Park for a friendly.

Pitch 1

The first game was very close as we took a 2 goal lead through opportunist strikes from Luke, taking advantage of short defensive clearances but the opposition fought back well. At times we were a little bunched during open play in the first half, but looked much more organised in the second half, despite conceding good goals. Good games from Luke and Charles; Matthew also continued with the energetic performance he had showed at GX last time. Kian and Matthew were willing goalkeepers, with Kian in particular making several brave saves.

The second game was also very close, Luke equalising GX & Fumler’s early goal. We showed better appreciation of space and passing in the second game; Kian showed that he is developing into an excellent defender who reads the game well from the back, complemented by Joe’s very solid tackling. Overall, we played better in the second game as Alex Willox and Alfie in particular were much more involved showing good first touches and passes and making tackles when required. Arjan played the whole of the second game up front and took up several good positions, resulting in a couple of shots just off target. Joe was very solid in goal in the first half, having no chance with their goal and Charles gave an inspired and faultless performance in goal in the second half, proof that Tony’s goalkeeper coaching from the day before has already had an affect.

Squad: Luke, Charles, Arjan, Alfie, Matthew, Joe, Kian, Alex Willox

Pitch 2

All the boys had a great day. The first match was a little slow to get started, but after a little team talk about positions and passing they played a much better game for the second match which happily means they do listen to us !!!

Outstanding play from young Robert; he really did play with a lot of determination and it was great to see him score his first goal for the club in the second game. Jacob also played a great game with a lot of good tackling and passing; he then changed to goalkeeper and played just as well in goal with some excellent saves. After waking up from the first game Charlie got stuck into his favourite position as defender with Alex Jennings and together they stopped almost all the advances on our goal. Sam scored two goals, one from a superb pass from Aaron King placed perfectly for a run to goal. Andreas was everywhere and made some great tackles, he also came close to scoring at one point.

They really played well as a team and all the goals scored were made from excellent passing.

Squad: Robert, Andreas, Sam, Charlie, Alex Jennings, Aaron, Jacob
