After the Christmas break and disruption caused by the weather, this saw the Under-9’s back in action as quarter finalists in the Lynxes Cup. Unbeaten this season, confidence in the squad was high, however the boys met their match against very organised opposition.

An entertaining encounter between two evenly matched teams saw KingsChurch score very early on in the game. In spite of a number of good passages of play from Westwood with Matthew and Jonny feeding Daniel R, Daniel C and Sam, the team was unable to convert the chances that came their way. The KingChurch’s goalkeeper merits special mention as he also proved to be on top of his game with a number of excellent saves.

The second half saw Westwood press for an equaliser, with the action end to end, but two opportunist goals from KingsChurch put the tie out of the reach of the boys. A consolation goal taken well by Sam after some good passing by the whole team was scant reward for Westwood’s efforts.

Perhaps the enforced lay off due to the snow had had an effect on the boys early season momentum, but it was great to see that despite the disappointment of going out of the Cup the team took the set back extremely well and in good spirits. While the U-9’S can now focus on the League that they currently lead, congratulations must go to Kings Church Amersham for a fine performance.

Reviewer’s man of the match: Jonny Grint and Matthew Jones for some strong tackling, measured passing and support play throughout the match.
