A much changed side took to the field for the return match against Blackstone Comets in the league, after three weeks of inactivity due to the weather. In the absence of George and David the coaching responsibilities’ were taken on by Bipin and Colin and what a result they got.

Another entertaining encounter saw Westwood start very brightly with both Daniel and Matthew shooting wide in the first minutes of the match. Westwood dominated for much of the first half with some neat interchanges between all the players. Matthew and Daniel dominated the midfield, with some strong tackling and support play from Mahdi and Shaylin two goals were scored by Daniel. Toby in goal with Samuel and Oliver at the back was rarely troubled. However, against the run of play and towards the end of the first half, Blackstone managed to score a well worked goal.

The second half saw Westwood continue to dominate. Mahdi in particular tackling strongly, and clearly gaining in confidence, he began to run with the ball at the opposition. Three further goals were scored, two by Daniel on the back of some defence splitting passes from Matthew. Matthew also got on the score sheet with a strong run down the left hand side and a precise shot past the goalkeeper. Again the Westwood defence was rarely troubled in the half, with Shaylin, Toby and Samuel making some robust tackles. Good passing out of defence by the three boys enabled Daniel, Matthew and Mahdi to dominate the opposition. Oliver in goal again was rarely troubled, put in some strong clearance kicks and dominated his area well. He was unlucky in his attempt to parry a strong shot from the opposition’s centre forward towards the end of the match which enabled Blackstone to score a consolation goal.

Well done the boys, and the new coaching team, they all showed great spirit which contributed to an entertaining game.

Reviewer’s man of the match: A difficult one today as all the boys played well. However Daniel Restall for his four goals and a brave defensive stop at the end of the first half which saw him take the full force in the midriff of a goal bound shot from the opposition that prevented a certain goal, and Mahdi Karim who once again displayed some strong tackling, great passing and as the game wore on began to display a lot of confidence which saw him begin to run at the opposition with the ball.
