St Josephs Tournament

Our penultimate tournament of the season was at St Josephs 88 FC in Kenton near Harrow. All our games were against north and west London sides and as expected were all strong opponents.

The first game was against LNER. It was a close match decided by a rather fortunate but well taken penalty for the opposition. We had our chances and were unlucky not to score; Kian and Charles were busy in midfield, Charles in particular making a number of incisive runs towards the opposition goal but we couldn’t quite turn the chances into goals. Alex, Christian and Sam shared defensive duties and, along with Luke and Kaushal in goal, made sure that LNER were not going to score in open play.

Match two against one of the two home club teams in our group was decided by a well taken goal from Luke, slotting in with his left foot from just inside the box. We conceded another penalty in this game but Sam made a stunning save from the spot kick when the score was 0-0.

Our third game against Heathrow was another close game. This was the only game when our defenders forgot to defend, so we conceded three breakaway goals. Alex and Christian in goal had no chance with any of the shots. Charles scored a very good goal in reply while Kaushal had a couple of shots and was unlucky not to score.

The last game against the other St Josephs side was our best performance. Kian and Aaron had very little to do in goal, Christian and Sam were excellent in defence, taking in turns to attack when we went forward and tackling back when the opposition attacked. Alex and Luke ran the midfield with Kaushal and Charles sharing attacking duties. The only goal of a close game came when Luke nipped in between their goalkeeper and defender to round the keeper and score. We defended several good corners as St Josephs pressed for an equaliser.

Overall, we played very well and probably deserved slightly better results. Everyone contributed to all the games and the boys can be very proud of themselves. Indeed, the referee was very impressed with us (he was still heard complimenting us the next day) for our general play and the attitude of the players, coaches and parents. Well done to all.

Squad: Alex Walker, Luke, Sam, Charles, Christian, Kaushal, Kian and Aaron
