After a two week lay off due to the Arctic weather, a bright sunny day saw the Blue’s back in action against new opponents the St Peters Iver Saints. A good first-half display and a workman-like second half saw the Blue’s notch up their third straight home win.

The Blue’s were on the front foot from the off and were soon into their familiar passing pattern. With James, Harry, Jonny and Matthew to the fore in midfield and attack. Benedict and Samuel solid in defence and Daniel comfortable in goal the Blue’s worked well as a unit. They soon took the lead with a well worked goal from James. A second goal from James after some good dribbling down the right by Jonny settled the side down.

The Saints to their credit also put together some good passages of play and but for a combined defensive effort by Matthew and Daniel, were unlucky not to have pulled a goal back. The Blue’s countered well and with Harry and Matthew causing problems down both wings, which forced a number of corners, which the opposition, in particular their goalkeeper did well to keep out. As the half came to a close Matthew made one of his weaving runs down the left wing and placed a strong shot passed the opposition’s goalkeeper into the bottom right-hand corner.

Playing down the slope in the second half, the Blue’s were surprisingly pinned back into their own half for long periods as the Saint’s began to get into their stride. The Saints won a number of corners and created a number of opportunities that Mahdi and Oliver with the assistance of James and Daniel dealt with tenaciously and confidently. Matthew in goal was called on to make a couple of saves in this passage of play. The pressure was relieved after a quick goal kick by Matthew to Harry, caught the Saints by surprise and resulted in a fourth goal for the Blue’s. Thereafter the Blue’s found their second wind and with Daniel and Jonny taking control of midfield, a number of chances were created for Harry and James, but for some stout defending and further saves from the Saints goalkeeper the score line could have been bigger.

Another good performance by the Blues and a game played in good spirit by both sides. The Blue’s can now look forward to a well earned break from League activity until the New Year.
