Rickmansworth tournament

Squad; Alex W, Arjan, Charles, Christian, Joe, Joss, Jude & Luke

This was probably the nearest tournament for us to play. Just 10 minutes away at Maple Cross School. The sun came out and the boys prepared for a 7 match tournament. All matches were 6-a-side, but there were some long breaks, which to their credit the boys remained pretty focussed through. Games were 6 minutes long on quite small pitches.

As with previous matches we tried the boys out in different roles, but kept to a core 2 defenders, 2 midfielders and 1 upfront. Alex W, Charles, Jude and Luke all had a go in goal.

The matches went really quickly and chances were at a premium. Goals were quite scarce.

Over the 7 matches we managed 6 goals and conceded less than that! We defended really well. Our goals were from Luke with a great hatrick in one game, Charles with a nice right foot in to the top corner, an own goal (direct from a throw) and a wonder strike from Joe, a sizzling right foot shot that left the keeper no chance.

The boys worked tirelessly, Joss and Christian were powerful tacklers and runners. Arjan was immense in defence. Such a hard player to beat and probably our best player on the day. Jude did well in goal and passed the ball beautifully at times. Alex W kept 3 clean sheets and drove hard in midfield.

Overall, we couldn’t fault the level of skill and commitment from the boys. 2 wins, 3 draws and 2 defeats was a little unfair really. It could have been better with a little bit of luck.

Well done boys!

Nick & Paul
