Match 1
This was our first ever fixture against Cookham Dean. Unfortunately they turned up with only 12 players so our plans for 7-a side were scuppered. On a very warm day for the time of year, this game featured some excellent football by both teams. This was clearly the better Cookham side of the two but the game was very close and remained 2-2 until near the end when they scored three well-worked goals. Christopher P scored what will probably be the fastest goal of the whole season before Cookham scored twice. Luke equalised with a cool finish. On balance their passing was better than ours; several of our players made really good dribbling runs but rather than pass the ball, lost possession in trying to beat a third or fourth defender. Alex W in goal made an absolutely blinding save, diving and pushing a rocket of a shot up and over the bar.

Match 2
We started this game really well again and we led the match until late into the second half when once again we conceded 3 late goals. Luke scored an excellent hat trick and Alfie weighed in with a well-deserved goal for us to lead 4-3. Alex W and Rishi shared goalkeeping duties and couldn’t be faulted for any of the goals but our midfield was constantly struggling to get back and help the defence as Cookham caught us on the break.

Over the two games, we were very good going forward, but not so good recovering to defend their breakaways. Also, trying to ensure that all 8 players got equal game time probably made our performance a little disjointed, leaving Cookham plenty of space to exploit. Milan and Rishi worked hard in defence and midfield while Guy deserves special mention on his debut; he showed excellent ball skills beating players and worked very hard when not in possession. Also, many thanks to Jake, who played at very short notice for the good of the team both as a defender and up front.

Team: Charles, Sam, Charlie, Luke B, Kian, Christopher M, Joe D & Robert W

First game 3-0 Sam, Robert & OG

Match 1
First Half
What a lovely day to have our first game of the season on. A bit hot for the boys especially when playing an extra 5 minutes each half. This was something I had to keep an eye on. The game started with a very quick pace with shots on goal at both ends in the first few minutes. Christopher Membury played in goal and it was thanks to his fantastic saves that we were holding off Cookham Dean. We started to settle down with Kian and Robert strong at the back and Charles and Luke B covering a lot of ground in midfield. With about 5 minutes until half-time Sam took on a couple of defenders and fired a shot into the bottom corner of their goal.

Second Half
The second half saw pretty much of the same but now we had Robert W up front who scored the second of our goals. More great saves from Christopher kept us in it and hard work from Charlie and Joe day made sure their strikers would end the game frustrated.

Second game 2-4 Sam & Christopher M

Match 2
First Half
This Cookham Dean team looked twice the size of our players so I thought we may be in for a tough game. For the first five minutes we matched them and thought what I was worrying about. Then the floodgates opened and poor Luke B was on the end of four good goals which would of been hard for anyone to save. Robert and Charlie worked well together throughout and just before the break Sam popped up with another great goal.

Second Half
I told the boys not think about the first half score and go out, play and enjoy themselves. And play they did Sam went in goal and played like a natural stopping shot after shot. Charles and Joe worked hard in midfield, defence and up front or at least that’s what it looked like! Kian with some supportive advice was told to keep an eye on their main striker. Kian pretty much kept him in his trouser pocket for the whole game. It was great to watch as the forward was twice his size and very skilful. Christopher battled hard up front and was rewarded with a goal.

The team played well, kept their positions and worked very hard. It was a very hot day and we played six a side on a seven a side pitch. So well done boys and lets see if we can step it up another level for our next match.

Cheers

Paul & Martin
