On a fine spring morning we lined up against a potentially strong Wendover club; they had beaten us in the cup quarter finals earlier in the year.

Top Pitch: report awaited

Bottom pitch:

Squad: Aakash, Akshay, Archie, Kian, Luke B, Luke S, Milan, Robert W

Match 1:
We were playing the stronger and more physical of the two Wendover teams first and, kicking downhill in the first half, couldn’t have got off to a better start. Within the first few minutes we created 3 or 4 chances for Archie and Luke S and Luke S took two of them for an early 2-0 lead. Archie and Luke S were linking up really well; Archie made several excellent forward runs with Luke S trying to put him through with some pinpoint forward passes. Milan looked solid in goal, well protected by Kian and Akshay in defence, with Robert giving added help in the defensive midfield when required. On the stroke of half time, Wendover worked a fine goal to leave the score at 2-1 in our favour at half time. Now we were faced with playing uphill; Luke S went in goal, Milan went into defence with Kian moving into midfield. Luke B, after an excellent first half, took his break with Aakash replacing him in midfield. Although we had to soak up some pressure and Wendover created one or two chances from a run of several corners, Luke S had little to do in the half. With 5 minutes left, a long ball from Luke S was flicked on by Robert and Kian burst through their defence to finish expertly into the far corner with his right foot!!

A really good performance from everyone; good passing, both long and short range, the tackling was determined and the boys all worked hard for each other.

Match 2:
Continuing our policy of rotating players around all the positions, Robert and Aakash shared the goalkeeping for this match and both Lukes and Archie moved back into more defensive positions. Akshay got a run out in midfield with Milan. We played the first half uphill this time and once again the passing and movement was very good going forward, with the midfield working hard to get back and defend when we were under pressure. We took a deserved lead midway through the half when a corner from Luke S evaded the keeper and Aakash bundled the ball over the line. Wendover had 2 or 3 attacks of note in the second half but Aakash in goal was very sharp and brave off his line to save. Luke B looked very solid in his more defensive role, making tackles, covering and generally maintaining his position. We had several chances ourselves, with Luke S in particular firing in some long range shots from his defensive midfield position. We held on to win 1-0.

Another excellent performance from everyone; we had asked the players before the game not to be afraid of shooting and we had many shots saved by their keeper, a Watford development centre player, who had an excellent game.

Well done boys

Ian and Adam
