Westwood Park V Wendover (top pitch)

Squad: Aaron, Charles, Chris M, Chris P, Joe, Rishi, Sachin, Sam

First Game

Wendover kicked off and in their first attack a goalmouth scramble was cleared away by our little terrier Charles up to Rishi who had a great breakaway attempt saved by their goalkeeper. Another chance for Wendover was foiled by great defending by Sam and well held by our excellent goalkeeper, Chris M. We then built an attack from the back, Sam passes to Charles up the right hand side and his pass to Rishi produced an instinctive first time shot saved again by their goalie. Joe in midfield was doing exactly what he was told to do making some great space ready to latch on to any pass. Sub Sachin came on to give us more width on the left. Straight away he received the ball, passed to Chris P, who made a strong left side run and slotted in Rishi for a well-taken goal with a fine right foot shot. Well done lads, good teamwork.

A good start to the second half from the home side produced an early corner taken by Charles, producing a nice header from Sam which went just over the bar. Chris P on the left wing and Aaron up front linked together tidily while Sam looked very confident in midfield, laying off some nice balls to the energetic Aaron. We finished the match well, after some fine play from the home side with another two attempts from Chris M and Charles

The final score was 1-1 but with more luck we could have won the game. Well played Westwood.

Second Game

The second match started at a much faster tempo with Wendover taking control. A great goal line clearance by Sam denied the opposition an early goal. The Westwood team showed good team spirit despite being put under pressure and Sachin proved solid in defence. Good team passing gave us a chance to score, Rishi firing in a good shot at goal which the goal keeper just got his hand to, Sam quickly followed up on the rebound but was denied a goal. Joe held the midfield well while still trying to push the ball forward. Chris M continued to be strong in goal and made several great saves.

We started the second half well with Sam and Chris P making some good passes. Quick thinking Charles got a cross in to Joe who got to the ball and had an attempt on goal. Sachin, as determined as ever, also showing some great skills on the pitch . Aaron, now in defence, kept his position, making it difficult for the opposition to get past him. Rishi had a fine game in goal, distributing the ball well. A difficult game with the Westwood Park team needing to prove their defence skills, although still showing good team spirit. Two (rather lucky it has to be said) goals from Wendover were enough to win a game that on another day, and with a bit more luck, Westwood Park could have won.

Well done boys !!

Paul, Wayne and Martin
