What a great day. Sun shining, warm and playing one of the friendliest clubs. The boys looked in good form after a nice warm up and some excellent penalty practice.

The match started quickly, after winning the ball Sachin got a pass to Sam who then made a long pass to Luke whose shot hit the post. A great start and the boys were fired up straight away. Holmer Green came straight back but Sachin and Joe made some important clearances. When we pressed forward, Sam had a great shot that just went over the crossbar. Their goalie took the goal-kick which Joe intercepted but his shot was deflected for a throw in. The boys knew to throw down the line and the throw was well received by Millan who played a nice pass to Aaron to have his first shot on goal which their keeper turned around the post. Holmer Green attacked and won a corner but we cleared easily by Milan up to Luke S; he passed to Sachin who moved the ball onto Sam. Sam’s shot was blocked by the goalie only for him to follow up for the rebound to score Westwoods first goal. Holmer Green kicked off but we pressured them again to take it in to their own half and Luke tried a shot which was blocked by a defender’s hands and we were awarded a penalty. They all wanted to take it but it was rightly awarded to Luke and struck the ball home with a precise shot. Holmer Green then pushed forward but Joe and Milan were solid in defence to drive the ball out yet again to Sam who ran upfield and dribbled round the goalie to score. Late in the half a Holmer Green player went down in our area for a penalty against us. It was a very well taken penalty and and we conceded our first goal.

Chris had a bit more to do in the second half and before we knew it the first corner was awarded to Holmer but with a great punch Chris managed to push a difficult high ball out. Aaron decided it was his turn to shine and dribbled the ball with great skill to then pass on to Luke for a clean shot saved really well by their goalie. The Goalie was tested really hard with two more shots from Luke. Our confidence was high and it showed with the passing and positioning. Sachin was moving really well and seemed to be everywhere the ball went. Holmer suddenly had a really good spell and Chris from having nothing to do suddenly saved two hard shots on goal. A well delivered corner produced a great header but Chris was there yet again to hold the ball. We then conceded a soft second goal as we tried to dribble the ball from our own goal line but almost immediately from the kick off Milan passed to Aaron who, with great vision, spotted Sam up front in space; the long accurate pass straight to his feet to allow him to round the goalie and score our fourth goal to end the game.

Second game
The second game we had a little swap around and moved Sam and Aaron into defence and Sachin and Joe up front. This was a much tighter game and the ball was played really well by Holmer with pressure on us from the kick off. We soaked up the pressure until Sam got a good pass out to Sachin who moved the ball on to Luke who scored with a beautiful long lob straight into the goal. Holmer kicked off but Sachin intercepted and moved the ball up pushing really fast with Joe and Milan in support he managed to get a good hard cross in only to go through everyone without a touch and finally kicked out for a throw. Milan and Sachin were having a great spell and enjoying some good interplay. Chris was on his toes again with a great save at the other end while another strike was blocked by Sam square on his back and gathered by Joe who cleared. The second half started with a long shot from Luke well saved by their Goalie. Straight back at us Holmer Green came but a good block from Aaron was confidently gathered by Joe, who controlled the ball and passed out to Luke; his pass to Sachin was precise and Sachin made a great run on to score a well deserved goal. The inter play was great between our midfield and forwards and after bringing Aaron out of defence for Sachin he moved the ball up yet again with some great runs. Aaron was much happier in midfield and teamed up with Milan to get the ball to Luke to score a great goal. Chris swapped with Luke in goal and with pressure on Luke had to make a good save straight away. Sam came out of defence and with Aaron made a combined run upfield, Aaron was dribbling the ball really well but went down under a challenge just as Sam scored; the ref had blown for a foul so unfortunately for Sam, the goal was disallowed. Sam took the resulting free kick, firing past the wall just wide of the wall as the final whistle went.

It was a pleasure to watch all the boys play so well without too many instructions from the coaches. They listened they kept their positions and played as a team!

Well done boys
Martin, Ian, Wayne
