We took a strong squad of players to the P&TG tournament on Sunday 6th May, compriaing Archie, Charles, Chris M, Luke B, Luke S, Rishi, Sachin, Sam,

We opened up against Marlow United, whom we had beaten in both the league and cup competitions this season, but they started very strongly, passing the ball well and at pace and only 2 fine saves from Chris early on kept us in the game. Although Charles and Rishi defended well, Chris was finally beaten by a great strike into the top corner before Luke S got past their last defender and slotted the ball low into the far corner for the equaliser. Both teams spurned further chances, with Archie being well marshalled by their defence before the final whistle ended the game 1-1.

Next up were FC Real, an academy side from London, who not surprisingly were skilfull and very physical . We played very well, and although they dominated going forward, Sachin was very strong in defence and with Chris resolute in goal, again making several good saves, we only conceded one goal; on the break we created one or two chances of our own and were unlucky when we broke away, were 3 v 1 but their only defender just got a foot in to block Archie’s pass to Luke which would have been a certain equaliser.

Another London outfit, LNER, were our third opponents and we fought out a 0-0 draw. Charles and Luke S formed a strong midfield behind Archie but only managed a few long shots from Luke which went just wide while they struggled to get past Sam and Sachin, who defended well and when they did manage to test Chris but he stood firm, making 4 or 5 good saves again.

Our match against Cookham Dean was probably the most exciting of all; end to end football and 5 goals. Archie took over from Chris in goal and despite conceding 3 goals, saved 4 or 5 other certain goals. We were soon 1-0 down, before Sam chipped the keeper with a cheeky, composed finish. Back came Cookham, roared on by their vociferous coach, to lead 2-1. Then with Luke B getting more into the game down the right flank, Luke equalised with a great shot into the far top corner but Cookham took the lead again with a goal after a goalmouth scramble. There were only seconds left on the clock when we were awarded a free kick 15 yards out; Charles stepped up and hit a great shot which curled inches wide of the right hand post

We finished against Holmer Green and with the players tiring, had to settle for another 0-0 draw in a game of few chances.

Overall, we played well but in truth, all the boys looked tired in cold windy conditions. The pitches were very small which didn’t really suit the passing game we try and play. Still, well done to all the boys; we played against good teams and with a bit more luck could easily have finished in the top 2 and made it through to the semis.
