Red B – Match 1

Squad: Chris M, Aakash, Akshay, Kian, Sam, Luke, Joe and Joss

After Martin claimed he had a severe case of amnesia and our roving reporter Melanie King was unavailable – it was left to the Gaffa’s wife to take the reins!

It was a cold Saturday morning and upon arrival to Cookham Dean, we were met by rain and sleet. Adam and Martin put the squad through their pre match warm up and made sure they were ready for the task in hand.

We started slowly and took a while to get into our stride. It was a fairly even game when midway through the first half Sam scored the first goal and Cookham Dean were quick to reply when their number 9 (Jack) made his way through our defence to score the equaliser. Our keeper and defence stood solid and we took the lead again when there was a goal mouth melee and Luke coolly back heeled the ball into the net. After some fantastic passing, we were quickly on the attack again and a superb pass from Sam found Luke and he quickly placed it into the back of the net making it 3-1 at half time.

With Martin refeering, Adam gave a half time team talk to the players and made some changes for the second half with Luke and Sam playing together in defence moving Akshay and Kian up field. We were still under a tremendous amount of pressure from the Cookham Dean attack but Sam certainly had the measure of their key player and when they did manage to get past Sam, Chris made crucial saves. We were nearing the end of the game when Luke took the ball out of defence and as he was running the length of the pitch, all we could hear from the other side was Adam shouting “pass Luke” (about 10 times) but Luke decided to shoot from outside the box and the ball hit the top right hand corner of the net making it 4-1. The game finished with another goal from Luke when he kicked the ball from just inside the half way line and it ended up going over the keeper’s head into the back of the net – a goal worthy of ‘goal of the season’.

A fantastic team effort by all – we showed what lovely passing we can achieve when we play as a team and not as individuals.

Red B – Match 2

Our team line up for the start of this game was Kian and Akshay in defence, Sam and Joe in midfield with Luke and Aakash as strikers. We started where we left off in the first game – some lovely passing. Our first goal came from a great pass from Sam to Luke who toe poked it to Aakash who coolly put the ball in the back of the net. This was then followed by a fantastic save by Chris up the other end with Cookham Dean scoring from the rebound.

We did not let our heads go down and kept focused on our passing game. The second goal, scored by Luke came from an unfortunate kick out by their keeper. Again Cookham Dean went on the counter attack and scored their second from a messy goal mouth scramble which ended up in the back of the net. Again our third goal came from their kick out and Luke passed to Sam who scored making it 3-2 at half time.

Again, Adam mixed the team up and Kian started the second half as striker and it wasn’t long before he scored his first goal of the season from another misplaced kick out. His second followed a great passing move from defence which finished with Luke who tapped it sideways for Kian to find the back of the net.

Towards the end of the match, we started to look a bit tired when Cookham Dean got through our defence to score their third goal. They kept up the pressure with Chris making a fantastic save in the dying seconds of the game.

Although the score line ended 5-3, there was some really good football played by both teams, with some lovely passing; the only difference between the teams in this match was that we were more effective moving the ball out of defence on the day.

Again a fantastic team effort by all and a “good day at the office”!!
