Squad:
Alex W; Akshay, Robert W, Milan, Guy, Chris P; Aakash, Archie, Charles, Kian ; Sam, Luke

This was our last match before Christmas and our second match against Wendover this season, having lost 3-2 to them at home in September. The pitch at Wendover is very big and so we agreed to play 10v10.

After a closely matched first 10 minutes we took the lead when Luke took a through ball on, chipped the ball over the onrushing keeper and nodded the ball over the line. After this both teams had their chances, with Archie shooting wide after Luke’s through ball and Alex tidying up well at the back after several Wendover attacks. H-T 1-0. We were playing well and the coaches encouraged the team to carry on where they had left off for the second half.

We started the second half well and soon we got a free kick outside the left hand corner of the box. Luke took it and put the ball onto the 6 yard line where Sam met it with a thundering header, giving the keeper no chance; 2-0 and a wonderful goal. We were now playing really well, with everyone passing the ball. After good passing, Milan, now playing in centre midfield, found himself in possession and placed a sublime pass through the Wendover back four for Archie to finish coolly; 3-0.

Wendover are a very strong side though and were also creating chances; after a swift break produced an overload at the far post, Alex was finally beaten, 3-1. They had by this stage built up a bit of pressure and another goal would have put them right back in the game but Luke broke through the back line again, heading the ball over the keeper. 4-1. Injuries at various times to Chris P, Robert W, Archie and Akshay meant we had to rotate the players in various positions and with 5 minutes left Robert W was posted up front. Soon after he broke away down the left, cut inside the defender and shot just wide of the near post. In our next attack, Robert W found himself in the perfect spot and headed in for 5-1. Four headed goals in the match was testament to the hard work done in training under Adam’s guidance.

This was the best performance of the season so far with all the players comfortable on the ball, pressing the opposition when required and bravely contesting the headers. Most of the players got to play in at least two positions continuing our policy of developing the players’ experience rather than pigeon holing them in specific areas. Alex was tidy in goal. the back three was solid, well marshalled by Robert, with Akshay playing a starring role in the first half against Wendover’s very pacy striker and Milan and Chris P their usual calm & solid selves; the midfield two (mainly Archie, Charles, Kian and Milan) won the ball and used it well. Our wide players (Charles, Guy, Luke, Aakash) were always available. Sam, after a shaky start , scored the goal of the game and Luke was an ever willing striker, who was man-marked throughout the game and followed his instructions to the letter to take his marker away into wide areas to leave room for Sam and the midfield to attack.

Well done boys.
