Kick–off was slightly delayed with an 11.20 start. Westwood were keen to get back to winning ways after the previous week’s defeat.

First Half

For the first 20 minutes play between the two teams was well matched with first St James and then Westwood having the best of the play. Both defences fought hard and challenged well. Ben, deputising in goal, made some brave challenges. As the first half progressed Westwood increased the pressure. Aided by some well-placed corners from Magnus and long throw-ins from Craig, Westwood began to take control. Shots from Magnus and Craig were well saved by the goalkeeper and shots from Craig, Will and Magnus were just wide. Eventually just before half-time the Westwood pressure paid off. A great cross from Magnus across goal was touched in by Ed: we were 1-0 up.

Second Half
In the second half Westwood started strongly and in a golden 5 minute period scored four goals. First to score was Fergus. With a great through ball from Ollie C, Fergus made a determined run, beating off the challenges of 3 defenders; score 2-0. Another great through-ball from Ollie C set up Ollie E for the next goal: 3-0. Fergus scored again when he intercepted a short goal-kick from the St James goalkeeper: 4-0. Saavan added another with a well-placed kick from the edge of the area: 5-0. St James continued to battle though and Ben needed to make several saves before St James got a well-deserved goal back: 5-1. Westwood came straight back with another goal. This time another corner from Magnus lead to a goal mouth scramble with Arjan getting to the ball in the net: 6-1. Ollie E then hit the post before getting his second goal with 5 minutes to go, picking up a goal kick from Ben on the half way line and sprinting through to score: 7-1. Westwood were dominating at this stage and shots from Magnus, Craig and Ed went close. St James continued to counter-attack but the Westwood defence were solid and confident in their play. Just before the final whistle, Savaan scored from close range: 8-1.

Well played Westwood! A great team performance, everyone working hard with commitment, passion and purpose.
