Westwood Park United 0-1 St Peters Iver Lionhearts

On a wet day this was a tight, physical confrontation won by small margins. St Peters had the better of the first half kicking downhill, but the Westwood defence held out with Aman and Ben strong in central defence and Ryan showing excellent handling and distribution. There was the occasional break out with good work down the wings by Ollie E and Magnus, but no end product. The decisive moment came controversially, with Ryan being dispossessed in a scramble and the ball forced home with him still out of position.

The second half saw the roles reversed and Westwood upping their physicality to match the opposition and create a succession of good chances. Great work down the left saw Fergus fire over from 6 yards out and shortly after, when the keeper parried Craig`s shot he produced a miraculous save, again from Fergus. Next, Fergus`s shot, destined for the top corner, was pushed onto the bar. It was just not to be!

Westwood played some good passing football, never giving up and the referee and opposition both felt they could easily have won the game with a bit of luck. However it was not to be, as the game finished with 2 St Peter`s players leaving the pitch injured and Westwood with the upper hand. The reverse fixture will be well worth a watch!
