Westwood rally for morale boosting win

On a cold morning with snow in the air Westwood had the advantage of kicking downhill first half. After recent comeback defeats a cushion at half time was important and an early lead was secured by Fergus latching on to Tom’s excellent through ball. All was looking good and Tom’s skilful flick from Ed’s delivery made it 2-0 and giving us some comfort. Whilst the boys’ passing was improving, there were still times when a lack of awareness meant willing runners went unnoticed. There were some shots from distance and good work from Magnus nearly created an opportunity: however, never making life easy, Amersham pulled one back with a shot from distance after Ryan’s clearing kick came up short.

All to play for and inevitably Amersham came on more strongly equalising when a well struck free kick from distance rebounded off the bar striking Ryan on the back and into the net. Surely Westwood would not lose a 2 goal lead for the third time this season…. But no, good work done the left with Ollie E involved led to Craig’s cross being smashed into the net by an unfortunate defender. The game was getting more physical and whilst there were few clear cut chances, both Arjan and Tom both went close. With seconds remaining Magnus was tripped in the box and got up to beat the keeper to his left. 4-2 and game over. Kicking uphill the boys had performed strongly and are well set to rise to the challenges ahead: Iver away then Iver at home in the cup. Come on Westwood!
