We returned to the Chorleywood tournament as defending champions. In the group stage we faced Bessingby, winning 2-0 (a bright start which was unlike us!!). Sarrat Rebels Yellow came next and a disappointing 0-1 loss. The lads seem to think their work was done and pretty much fell asleep. Last in our group we faced Chorleywood Jaguars needing a result to stand a chance of going through to the cup competition. We came out comfortable winners 3-0, which saw us top the group with 6 points – the boys thankfully woke up!!!

In the quarter finals we faced Sarrat Rebels Black winning 2-1. A hard fought game but a deserved win. Next came TFA Bushey (a football academy from Bushey), the conquerors of Chorleywood in their quarter final. We won this comfortably with a dominant performance, 2-0, which saw us into the final for a second year running. In the final we faced Bushey & Oxhey. We went 1-0 after 5mins and were looking comfortable. Maybe a little too comfortable, with 3mins left a lapse in concentration allowed their equaliser and much like last year, meant the final was to be decided on penalties. Best of 5 which we ended up winning 4-2 with all of our penalties converted and converted competently giving the keeper no chance. Seb our keeper kept his nerve and made 2 fantastic penalty saves to ensure we retained the title for another year.

It was great to see the boys play some genuinely good football (in parts!). Their passing game was unmatched and our attacking play was fluid with some lovely finishing, scoring 10 goals over 6 matches (exc. the 4 penalties). Our defence was pretty resolute conceding only 3 goals throughout the tournament.

All in all it was a very good day for Westwood Park FC as our Colts side made it through to the semi-final of the plate competition before losing on penalties to our Saturday group the ‘Wolves’ run by Graham Warner. The Wolves then went onto to become runners up in the plate, unfortunately losing in the final on penalties to Bessingby. Well done to all the boys from WPFC U10s and what a great advert for the club.
