Westwood Park Rovers and Westwood Park Dynamo’s both had a team entered into the 2016 Holmer Green Pre-season Tournament on 4th September. There were three Groups in the main competition and a colts competition. Both the Westwood Park teams were in the main competition with Holy Trinity as the only Chiltern Church League rival, the rest being from the Sunday League.

Both teams played their hearts out after a summer without football in their group stage. Dynamo’s then left the competition after the group stages but Rovers went through. With some big teams to play the likelihood of making the final seemed a long way away. It was Downley Dynamo’s in the quarter final and in a flash it was over and we had won 1-0. Next we faced Bedgrove Dynamo’s who had just taken their other team out through a penalty shoot out. This time our Rovers had caught the winning bug and came away with a brilliant 1-0 win. And now on to the final… and this was 12minutes instead of 8!!

If we could get a goal in early we would get them on the back foot, and with that within about 30 seconds we were 1-0 up. Then about 4minutes in we went 2-0 up. Surely they would get one back, but they tried and they tried and with the quality of our goal keeping and the defence they had no way back and Rovers went on to maintain their lead with a 2-0 win.

Well done to all.
